This is a big dang hat – befitting the self-centered character deftly played by Robert Urich. Everything is about Jake and this thoughtless, arrogant, gambler makes a bad choice and ends up riding with the wrong crew. We start with an over-sized hat body to make the Jake Spoon.
Crown: 6" inches

The Samuel Jones Hat is the one worn by Tommy Lee Jones, as Samuel Jones, a white man turned Apache, who returns to his estranged daughter in time to try and rescue his grand-daughter from slave traders. Sundance Kid Cowboy Hat - Our take on a classic western movie hat
the hat worn by Robert Redford in 1969s, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.
This hat is pretty nondescript and is a good representation of the type of hat that would have been seen in the later half of the 19th century on many of the cowboys riding through the west.
Tom Mix B-Movie hat - A hat style popular with early film star Tom Mix
Tom Mix was likely cinema's first movie star, starring in dozens of silent and talkie westerns, at the dawn of cinema in the 1920s and 30s. Mix was a small man who liked big hats, and was the first movie star earning 40,000 a week in 1925. This classic old B-Movie hat has a sagebrush crown, and a big 4 3/4 inch brim with a large kettle curl and bound brim edge.
Fort Apache Cavalry Hat - Shown with optional Heavy Trail Dust
We took our Rossiter crown, and put a pushed up cavalry brim on it. Added heavy trail dust, a "bullet hole" through the pinch in the crown, and a slight nick in the right side of the brim from a knife fight. A real "tricked out" character hat!
You will find hats similar to this in any of the 3 classic westerns from John Ford, She Wore a Yellow Ribbon, Fort Apache, or Rio Grande.

Our take on the Decker Movie Hat - from Legends of the Fall (1994)
Perhaps the most distinctive of all the hats in Legends of the Fall, this tall crowned wide brimed hat has a tight 3 pinch cavalry or Gus creasing to the crown, and a hand shaped brim.
We're showing this hat in frontier (long-haired) beaver fur-felt, but can just as easily be done in our standard. If you prefer the Decker in our standard fur felt, just ask for it in the production notes below.
Our take on the Ike Clanton Movie Hat - from Tombstone {1993}
The 4 dent military style crown was a common crown treatment in the old west. This hat with the pushed up front was worn by Stephen Lang as the cowardly drunk, Ike Clanton, in one of Hollywood's all time great western's - Tombstone. You may want to add one of our horse hair hat bands to complete the look.
Our version of the Johnny Ringo Hat - from Tombstone {1993}
Hats in the old west shipped with a satin ribbon and bow for the hat band and cowboys would often add their own hat band and just slide it over the existing satin one.
Our custom Ringo hat has the same off kilter crown as the movie hat, and the same rakish upturn to the right side of the brim. Instead of the braided horse hair band that's sported in the movie, we've chosen to wrap our custom wind string, around the existing band. Comes with wind string, you do not need to order separately.

For our money, 1947s Angel and the Badman, is one of the top 20 western movies ever made. And this classic western film has one of the great western character names in the history of western film, Quirt Evans.
The Quirt Movie Hat style is also a similar version to the one worn by Will Smith as James West in the wacky 1999 western, the Wild Wild West - the brim is just rolled a little differently. We'll fashion it either way for you, just request the James West version in the production notes section of the order.
