There was no uniform badge in the U.S. Marshal service until 1941, when the “Eagle Top” variety was introduced nationwide. Prior to this, each district made its own identifying badge. This type of badge was worn by the infamous Earp brothers, Wyatt and Virgil. This is also the type of badge worn by James Arness as Matt Dillon in the television series Gunsmoke.
