Sheriff Tombstone Badge

Sheriff Tombstone Badge – Badge was worn by Sheriff John Behan in 1881, Cochise County was formed from part of pima county, with Tombstone as the county seat. That’s why this badge reads “Tombstone”.

Tombstone’s first sheriff was John Behan. Shortly after Behan became sheriff, Virgil Earp was appointed as City Marshal. The Earps had a conflict with the Clantons and the McLaurys, while Behan supported them. Behan also had an interest in Josephine Sarah Marcus, but she was sweet on Wyatt Earp, so Behan held a special dislike for Wyatt. After the Gunfight at the O.K. Corral, Behan arrested Virgil, Wyatt, and Morgan Earp, and Doc Holliday for the murders of Billy Clanton and Tom and Frank McLaury, but the Judge ruled that their actions were justified.
