Fringe on leather clothing is a functional design feature pioneered by native Americans hundreds of years ago. Its job is to channel off rain and snow, allowing the garment to dry faster. And beside that it looks real cool!

Named for famed explorer and frontiersman, Jim Bridger, this shirt/jacket would feel right at home in the early 19th century.

Bridger was born in 1804, the same year that the famed Lewis and Clarke expedition started out from St. Louis. He was part of the team that was tasked with charting and mapping the unknown land west of Missouri.  President Jefferson had acquired this land with the Louisiana Purchase.

By the end of his life, Bridger had earned the reputation of being one of the foremost frontiersmen in the American Old West. Because he had a strong constitution he could survive the extreme conditions he encountered while exploring the Rocky Mountains.  Moreover Bridger could speak French, Spanish, and several indigenous languages.

In 1830, Bridger and several associates purchased a fur company from Jedediah Smith and others.  They named this company the Rocky Mountain Fur Company
