We decided to use long-haired, or Frontier fur-felt to replicate this hat for the Smithsonian Museum of American History. We also needed to start with an oversized hat body to allow us to do a 5 inch wide brim.
This hat can just as easily be rendered in our standard fur-felt, select your hat options during the checkout process.
Since the Dawn of Cinema the Western has been the greatest ongoing saga in film history. The first true motion picture was a western (naturally!). The film was made by Thomas Edison’s Company in 1903, called The Great Train Robbery.
Most of us have a favorite western series we grew up watching on Saturday mornings. For many of the Baby Boomer Generation these would include hats from series like:
Have Gun Will Travel :: The Rifleman :: Wanted Dead or Alive :: The Virginian :: Wild Wild West :: Hopalong Cassidy
And then there are the modern westerns, which have gathered quite a following. Shows like:
North and South :: Gods and Generals :: Lonesome Dove :: Purgatory :: Deadwood :: Broken Trail :: Justified :: Longmire
And any lover of the western would have to include Lonesome Dove as the finest western story yet told on film. It tells the compelling story of 2 old Texas Rangers that are tired of living in a tame Texas town, and long for the frontier of their youth.
