Description
Leather Covered Canteen
Leather Covered Canteen – Cloth wrapped canteen body for insulation, and then more insulation from the custom leather cover. Mouth piece and cap are plastic for hygienic reasons.
IMPORTANT
Any canteen liner can crack from freezing if left full, with the cap on tight. If you leave your canteen out in freezing weather; have 2/3rds or less fluid in it and leave the cap off.
When water freezes, it shrinks, but when it melts it expands, and if you follow these 2 simple rules your canteen liner should not crack, should the water in it freeze.
For an extra 45 dollars we will put 2 initials on your canteen and surround it with border edging.
For a cowboy in the Old West, his canteen was an essential piece of equipment, especially in terrain where water was scarce. The typical canteen was about 2 1/2 quarts. It would be covered with layers of scrap fabric for insulation, and would have been hand-sewn by the cowboy. He would soak the fabric in water to keep the contents cool.
The first thing that a cowboy did when he stopped at a pond or river water was to fill his canteen. He did that even before he took a drink. That way, if he had to leave in a hurry, he had a full canteen to take with him.
