Our Cavalry Fedora

4 Corners Ready to Ship Fedora – We decided to put our own twist on a fedora, and imagined what an old west cavalry trooper might
like to wear on furlough. Bowlers are certainly one choice, but we imagined something a little different.

• Hatband: 2″ Grosgrain ribbon and bow.
• Crown: 4 corner cavalry
• Brim:hand shaped bound
• Color: Longhair (frontier fur felt) Silver Mist

We took the crown shape of our Classic Cavalry hat, and put a fedora snap brim on it and came up with a quirky looking town hat.

Victor McLaglen would have looked great in our 4 Corners fedora, dressed in civilian clothes about to be thrown in the guard house for being out of uniform. All to keep him in the Cavalry, in 1948s highly entertaining She Wore a Yellow Ribbon.

One of the most memorable character actors in film history, Victor McLaglen was a leading man in the first years of Hollywood, and made many great films working with director John Ford. McLaglen made his first film in 1920 and in 1935, he won the best actor oscar for his role as Gypo Nolan, in The Informer.

History of the Fedora

In 1882, Victorien Sardou wrote a play called Fedora, for the biggest actress of the day, Sarah Bernhardt. When the play debuted in America, Princess Fedora wore a low crowned, creased and pinched, small brimmed hat.  A fashion trend was born.

By the 1920s and 30s the Fedora was adapted for menswear, and became a crucial part of a man’s wardrobe.  This hat was associated with the tough guy image portrayed by the gangsters, and perpetuated in the films of the day.

In the early days of Hollywood and especially in the old B-Westerns of the 1930s it was not unusual to see both Fedoras and Cowboy hats in the same movie.
