Our take on the Decker Movie Hat – from Legends of the Fall (1994)

Perhaps the most distinctive of all the hats in Legends of the Fall is worn by Decker.  Decker is the ranch hand.  He is married to Pet, and father of Isabel Two, who Tristan Ludlow eventually marries. The movie was filmed in the Kananaskis area of the last best west and is set at the start of the First World War.  It follows the Ludlow family as they come to grips with the 20th century.

There’s a powerful scene near movie’s end.  Decker is waiting patiently for the Cop who carelessly fired his machine gun and killed his daughter. Legends of the Fall was a box office smash, and put Brad Pitt well down the road of film stardom.

Legends of the Fall is one of those great epic westerns from this era. An excellent western story filmed in and around the Kananaskis area of The Last Best West. This epic story finds 3 brothers fighting their way through the first World War.  And all three of them fighting for the love one woman.  The youngest son brings Susannah home before he goes off to fight and die in Europe.

Tristan is the wild son, and of course the one that Susannah wants.  But Tristan has some post traumatic stress to deal with after coming back from the war, that Susannah can’t understand or deal with.
