Mister Howard Ready to Ship Homburg – The classic Homburg dress hat from the 19th Century
Our take on the Mister Howard Homburg – This is more of a Town Hat or Western Dress Hat. The Homburg dent and large Kettle Curl set this hat apart. This makes it an excellent choice to be worn with a good suit. An authentic design from the late 19th century this style of hat was worn all over the world.
Why Mister Howard? Howard was the name Jesse was known by, at the time of his killing by Bob Ford.
Brad Pitt plays a morose Jesse James, who after a life time of being hunted lives in a world of paranoia and self delusion. A dark slow moving western, The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford has been called by some people great film making, and maybe it is.
The clothes, firearms, acting are all great – but the narrative and the moody staging of the scenes produces a sad story, reminiscent of the atmospheric westerns of the 1970s. Macabe and Mrs. Miller, and Buffalo Bill and the Indians come quickly to mind.
Any well maintained, clean, cowboy or western hat can certainly pass as a dress hat. Back in the 19th century, small brimmed or Town Hats were the norm to wear with a good suit of clothes.
Our Bat Masterson, Butch Cassidy and King Schultz Bowlers are examples of likely the most common wear worn in the mid to late 1800s in North America. A bowler was worn by all classes of people. From butchers in New York to politicians in Washington. And from the western Outlaw, Butch Cassidy to Marshal Bat Masterson.
