This Sheath is our tribute to the mysticism and profound respect the native tribes of North America have for the bear. And, more specifically, the legend of the Medicine Bear.
Lakota Sioux oral traditions tell the story of the Great Mother Bear who was pregnant and weary from carrying her babies. The majestic animal was having a hard time walking and was afraid she could not travel to the lush Alpine Meadows to feed in her last days of pregnancy.
The massive beast lay down in a patch of Redwood Sorrel to rest her tired limbs, when the luck of the shamrock took over. Telling her that if she ate the Sorrel leaves, they would sustain her in her pregnancy. The Magical Bear rejoiced and knowing that her Lakota sisters also suffered from this malady she shared it with her friends through their medicine woman.
