After receiving my first cowboy hat from the Last Best West, I was thrilled with the quality of the product.  So, I decided to order another, the Lt. Col. Kilgore.  Unfortunately, when the hat arrived it was crumpled and severely damaged in shipping.  

Although I was greatly saddened by this, customer service at Last Best West was absolutely amazing.  Without asking for the damaged hat to be returned and without any bureaucracy,  they immediately replaced the hat and had it to me in a short period of time.  The second version of the hat arrived in perfect condition.  Like the first I purchased, it was a great fit and of outstanding quality.

The ‘Tristan’ came yesterday afternoon and is just Perfect!  There should be five photo attachments with this email.  (Let me know if not…)  I was a bit worried about choosing to put in the ‘Gus’ and ‘Mule Kick’ on the Tristan but WOW it was a great decision!  The color is fantastic, I’m sorry that you didn’t get to see it before it shipped.  VERY dark Indio but when the light hits it, or outside, the ‘blue’ just pops!  They did great with the color!  This is now going to be my ‘everyday’, rain or shine, and the old ash gray one is going into semi-retirement.  Please thank whoever ‘shaped and finished’ it for me.  They probably never hear back from the ‘New Owners’, but the finish is just perfect!  I also want to thank you as well for keeping in touch with an anxious Parent on his new ‘adoption’!  (I’ve seen a few others that look great on your Site, so that maybe my next pick may happen after the Holidays.

Again, thank you for everything!   I hope everything is going well with you too!  Please let everyone know that is there how great it all turned out!

My Doc Holiday hat arrived in the mail just yesterday. I love this hat! It’s like a classic fedora, however with the pencil roll on the end of the brim, and slight bend upwards on the left side gives a bad hombre look to it. If anything, this time the hat is slightly big on me, however my experience has been hats swell ever so slightly due to sweat. A couple days of wearing it, and I have a feeling it will be just fine. Attached are some photographs of me wearing the hat. For the record, I now have the Charlie Prince, the Ben Wade, the Dead Eye Marston, the Will Munny, and now, the Doc Holiday. I have ran out of room on my hat rack . Don’t worry, that won’t stop me from buying another hat!

Also, wherever I go, if it is a crowded place, I often have random people come up to me and tell me, “I love your hat!”, “That’s a nice hat!”, or “I want that hat!” so, big thanks for the conversation starter! And, great job, once again!

This hat is perfect for my purposes. I spend a lot of time outside so a good hat is a must due to being sunburned easily and bald. It is well worth the wait. Size wise it is just right not too loose and not too tight. The ribbon and trim blend nicely with the granite coloring. The 5 month wait for my hat is over. I received it the other day and I’m very happy that the final product is true to the movie both in colour and shape. My order called for 20X beaver so I assume the designation of 50% beaver on the inside sweat band is equal to 20X. Please clarify this point.

I question this because the crown of the hat is extremely stiff. I have other hats of 7X beaver that seem more pliable, but over time and use I’m sure this will change.

[The beauty of beaver fur felt is that it is very light and very stiff – a great hat for the great outdoors!]

In all, you guys did a great job. I’ll send you a picture by separate e mail.

Photo Ops from today, November 23, 2022.  This hat is different, but is very comfortable.  This is obviously a Hollywood hat because the sun gets in my eyes, as opposed to the issue M1883 hat with the brim down, keeps the sun out.  Anyway, I think it looks neat, I like it, and I will wear it again next week, and that is all that counts.

Upon receiving the American Indian carbine sheath, I examined it closely.

The workmanship is exquisite and the sheath is blemish free. It fits my carbine nicely.

However, I was surprised to see that the leather used is suede.

I was expecting that “garment quality leather” meant smooth glove-leather.

The photos that I viewed online did not look like suede.

Will do my best to care for it.

Sonja…I love my Paladin, Have Gun-Will Travel hat I received today! I am very pleased with the speed in which you manufactured and shipped it. The shaping is perfect!   

The hat fits my head a bit crooked like all my fedoras, but I inserted a shim you provided, rotated the hat just a bit to line up the concho with my nose, and it’s fine. I’m sure with time it will fit better to my  off-center head. . I wonder if I insert the hat stretcher you sent a bit off center that it will also shape the hat to fit me better. 

The conchos are beautiful. They were not mounted vertically straight on the head band but I just twisted them a bit and they look good. 

I also like that your hat has four conchos instead of three like the hat on the TV show. I always thought it would look better with four conchos. And…if I want to make the hat band look like the one on the TV show, I can add a smaller leather strap with a buckle on top of your concho.

I will recommend your company to my fellow Have Gun-Will Travel fans on Facebook and at nostalgia conventions I attend. 

I am waiting for my custom shirt to arrive. That will complete my costume and I will send you photos of me as Paladin. 

I have to decide if I want to grow a mustache or glue on one that I purchased .

I’ve been getting more interest/compliments on the The Thing hat than any other hat I have, and that’s after just a few times out with it!

The conversation usually starts with, “That’s an awesome hat!” When I tell them what movie it’s from, 90% of the time I hear, “I LOVE THAT MOVIE!” Some ppl get the impression that it’s THE hat from the movie, so there’s always a chuckle when I say there’s no way I could afford the real one.

It was 2011 when I first ordered the Randolph Scott Hat (I was in college at the time), but now, it’s 8 or 9 years later and I currently own the Paladin Hat made famous by Richard Boone. So, here I am having come a long way over the years and how I evolved.

I am thoroughly impressed by the hats you have done and made over the years, still. The ’56 Randolph Commanche was the first hat we ordered and this, the last hat recently arrived is the ‘57 Paladin. I started out as a white-hatted cowpoke but now became more of a black-hatted gunslinger.  I will always treasure them until my dying day and hopefully, someone will one day inherit them (provided they fit the same size as me, of course.

I just received my new Justified hat and wanted to drop a note to thank you for your workmanship on the hat, it is a very good looking hat and I especially like the color of the un dyed natural 100% beaver. given the difficulty of fitting my extra long oval head you did a wonderful job, the hat is just a little big but the proportional dimensions are right on for my head shape and truth be told I prefer a hat to be a little big rather than a little small.

The fit is close and I will compensate with fitment strips, the honest truth of hat making is that without having been able to sit for a custom fitting with you the end result is very good and I tip my hat to you folks. Much appreciated. G.Mann

Hi John, the (20X 50% beaver) beaver blend hat body is water resistant, and you do not need to put anything else on it. If it gets soaked just let it dry naturally with the hat stretcher in it to hold the size as it dries and there you go. Enjoy! TLBW

I received my Longmire cowboy hat, 20X, about a few weeks ago. Please accept my heart-felt thank you and compliments for such a fine quality hat! I’ve been a Stetson lover in the past but have been converted to the Last Best West. Not only do I love my Longmire but – best of all – my wife loves it too! I may not be a connoisseur of cowboy hats but I can tell the quality of my Longmire in comparison to many other cowboy hats I’ve tried or purchased before; this is amazing. Although it was a tight fit initially, I got a good hat steamer and, using the hat stretcher that you provided, have got it to fit my oval head just right.

It’s been a few years. Back in 2013 you created an truly amazing replica of the Hannibal Heyes hat from Alias Smith and Jones for my wife. It is an outstanding work of art and craftsmanship. I have since come upon a hat I would love to have recreated for myself and wanted to reach out to see if it would be possible.

I see that as part of your regular inventory you offer a replica of John Marston hat from the original Red Dead Redemption video game. I am a huge fan of the newer follow up sequel Red Dead Redemption 2 and have fallen in love with the Big Valley Beaver cowboy hat depicted in the game. I have been looking for a wide brimmed hat similar to it and cannot find exactly what I am looking for and thought, given your exemplary work before I would reach out again and see if you might be able to produce a reasonable facsimile of this hat. Your hat arrived. It’s a beautiful one. And just what I wanted. I do get compliments on my Last Best West hats and I always tell people about your company and web site. We had the Film Noir Festival here in January and I wore the Dobbs fedora throughout the week. The Dobbs has the right sized crown and brim for that period–Treasure of the Sierra Madre was about 1948, I think, but most contemporary fedoras have a four or so inch crown, and the Dobbs is on the mark. Anyway, I talk too much. This new one is beautiful and I thank you all for making it!

     That is great.

     I picked it up this Monday morning at my local Post Office as I missed a delivery attempt on Saturday.  What a beauty.  I am currently repacking my Sand Barkley for a refurbish/reblocking.   Thanks so much.  I will await the order info from you as I did with the Sundance reblock.

 . . .     Also I’d like to give a shout out to Brad for his work on the Charlie Prince hat refurbished into a Sundance Kid.  Truly amazing, and like new.

     Here it is pictured with my Sand colored Barkley, which I get lots of compliments on, and is my daily hat.  The Sundance hat mostly gets use as a second if the other is wet. . . .      Regards, Pat Cote

I am in receipt of my new hat.  I was quite surprised at how quickly it arrived.  Thank you for that.  When I placed the order I requested a small amount of dip in both the front and the back of the hat.  What I had pictured in my mind was quite a bit different than what I pulled out of the hat box.  It was better!  I am very pleased.
