ABOUT OUR BEAVER FUR-FELT HAT BODIES
Beaver Fur Felt is dense and virtually waterproof. It consists of beaver and/or rabbit/hare fur blended with felt to produce a material that lasts 5-10 times longer than wool-felt. A fine Beaver and Beaver blend fur-felt hat can be re- shaped numerous times, with just a steam source and a bit of patience. And is the premier material from which to manufacture fine hats.
As a general rule of thumb if a hat maker only describes their hat bodies as fur-felt, chances are it’s rabbit or Hare. Hat makers who use beaver fur-felt are proud of it and will state so. We sell 3 quality beaver blends of fine western hats – 5X, 20X and 100X. 5X is a blend of about 5% beaver with rabbit and felt. Our 20X is 50% beaver and our 100X is pure 100% beaver fur-felt.

Stumpy Custom Handmade Hat - You see lot's of these open crown style cowboy hats from the early days of film right through the modern era. Variations of this hat design were worn by Walter Brennan as Stumpy in Rio Bravo {1959}, as well as Dan Blocker as Hoss on the long running TV series; Bonanza. This is our take on the Drake the Ripper Hat - The hat worn by actor Jerome Flynn as Victorian Detective Sergeant, Bennet Drake, in the BBC drama, Ripper Street. It has a long modified cavalry shape to the short crown,with a small pencil roll on the bound brim. Hays Cooper Cowboy Hat - Our take on the Hays Cooper hat worn by Chuck Norris in Walker, Texas Ranger. In 1993 Chuck Norris took on the role of Walker, Texas Ranger and over the next 9 years it was one of the most popular shows on TV. During the 6th season an old west Texas Ranger character was developed over a couple of hours of a double episode. This was the hat style Hays Cooper wore.

Mrs. Boss Cowboy hat in Pure beaver belly. We've modified one of the hat styles worn by Nicole Kidman, as Lady Sarah Ashley, or Mrs. Boss in the epic film Australia, to give it more of an outback flair. Ours has a wider brim with a drover style to it. Shown in 100% natural color Belly Beaver fur felt. Originally the term "silver belly" referred to the belly fur of the beaver. By the mid 20th century it came to only identify a specific color. Belly Beaver Fur Felt is the thickest and densest of the beaver hat bodies. Virtually waterproof, it consists of 100% belly beaver fur blended with felt to produce a strong hat body very soft to the hand.

A contest to engage the imagination and powers of deduction, along with our love of movies.WE HAVE A WINNER! Well, we have been suitably humbled...this contest was posted at 1:42 April 4 2020 and in just 17 minutes(!) Ben Ellis posted the winning answer. Our take on the Randall Bragg Movie Hat - from Appaloosa {2008} Jeremy Irons crafts an intriguing Randall Bragg, a well dressed, well-connected, sophisticated Cattle Baron who gets what he wants, when he wants it. Appaloosa is such a good story, with all the actors doing a fine job of moving the story along. John Elder Movie Hat - John Elder isn't very popular around town. He starts asking questions about how his mother lost the family ranch, in The Sons of Katie Elder. This is one of those formula westerns from the 1960s. Dean Martin, Earl Holliman, and Michael Anderson Jr. play 3 of the brothers. All three come home for their mother's funeral. Its not long before they start hearing whispers about their father being murdered and their mother cheated out of the family ranch.
