ABOUT OUR BEAVER FUR-FELT HAT BODIES
Beaver Fur Felt is dense and virtually waterproof. It consists of beaver and/or rabbit/hare fur blended with felt to produce a material that lasts 5-10 times longer than wool-felt. A fine Beaver and Beaver blend fur-felt hat can be re- shaped numerous times, with just a steam source and a bit of patience. And is the premier material from which to manufacture fine hats.
As a general rule of thumb if a hat maker only describes their hat bodies as fur-felt, chances are it’s rabbit or Hare. Hat makers who use beaver fur-felt are proud of it and will state so. We sell 3 quality beaver blends of fine western hats – 5X, 20X and 100X. 5X is a blend of about 5% beaver with rabbit and felt. Our 20X is 50% beaver and our 100X is pure 100% beaver fur-felt.

augustus custom handmade hat style from the classic mini-series, Lonesome Dove (1989) Loveable old Ranger Augustus McCrae is the scalawag that keeps the Hat Creek Cattle Company loose and is a great counter balance to the salty Woodrow Call. This style of old west crown with it's 3 pinch cavalry creasing was first called the "Tom Mix" after the early movie star, and then became known as "The Gus" crease because of Lonesome Dove. Fort Apache Cavalry Hat - Shown with optional Heavy Trail Dust We took our Rossiter crown, and put a pushed up cavalry brim on it. Added heavy trail dust, a "bullet hole" through the pinch in the crown, and a slight nick in the right side of the brim from a knife fight. A real "tricked out" character hat! You will find hats similar to this in any of the 3 classic westerns from John Ford, She Wore a Yellow Ribbon, Fort Apache, or Rio Grande.

Frenchy Custom Fedora. Our take on Paul Henreid’s, Victor Laszlo fedora from Casablanca. (1942) The movie was put into wide release on January 23 1943, and at the Academy Awards of 1944, won 3 Oscars, including Best Film, Director, and Screen Play. Casablanca is perhaps the greatest example of film noir and the use of lighting and shadow is compelling. The scenes are brilliantly staged, and the dialogue is second to none.

Our take on the Indiana Jones adventure hat (fedora) from the Indiana Jones movie.
A classic fedora crown with a rakish curve to the brim brought this old hat back into public favor with the enormously popular Indiana Jones movies. Harrison Ford established himself as one of the top leading men in Hollywood with his portrayal of Archaeologist turned Treasure Hunter, Indiana Jones in 1981. This is our take on the Drake the Ripper Hat - The hat worn by actor Jerome Flynn as Victorian Detective Sergeant, Bennet Drake, in the BBC drama, Ripper Street. It has a long modified cavalry shape to the short crown,with a small pencil roll on the bound brim. This BBC drama hit the screen in 2012 and the BBC drama is set in 1889 London, 6 months after the Jack the Ripper murders.

Jolan Custom Dress Hat - More of a Town Hat Design, the Jolan has a small brim and was a popular look with people of substance in the West of the late 19th and early 20th Centuries. Essentially the same design as the Champie and the smaller brim makes it a great look for women.

Our take on the Virgil Cole Movie Hat - from Appaloosa {2008} Our Virgil Cole Hat is the cowboy hat worn by Ed Harris in 2008s excellent Western Film, Appaloosa. This is also the hat with only minor changes (a front pinch to the crown and a bit more roll to the brim) that Mr. Harris wears as The Man in Black, in HBOs new western hit, Westworld. It's almost like the character is patterned after a mean and vicious Virgil Cole. If you would like The Man in Black version, add the request to the PRODUCTION NOTES. The style is a an adjusted version of a basic Boss of the Plains style cowboy hat. Add a homburg dent to the crown and give a nice dip to the front of the brim and there she be. Pretty close to a Fort Bragg version of the US Cavalry Hat from the 1870s.

Our take on the Pale Preacher Movie Hat - from Pale Rider (1985) A variation of the timeless Boss of the Plains design which was the first "Western Sombrero" made for the general public in 1865. Immortalized by The Preacher from that great western from Clint Eastwood, Pale Rider.

Our take on the Decker Movie Hat - from Legends of the Fall (1994) Perhaps the most distinctive of all the hats in Legends of the Fall, this tall crowned wide brimed hat has a tight 3 pinch cavalry or Gus creasing to the crown, and a hand shaped brim.

Our take on the Ike Clanton Movie Hat - from Tombstone {1993} The 4 dent military style crown was a common crown treatment in the old west. This hat with the pushed up front was worn by Stephen Lang as the cowardly drunk, Ike Clanton, in one of Hollywood's all time great western's - Tombstone. You may want to add one of our horse hair hat bands to complete the look.

Tom Horn Cowboy Hat - Our reproduction of the Steve McQueen cowboy hat from the movie, Tom Horn - {1980} The crown creasing of this hat is close to the Augustus, but it's the hand shaped brim that gives this movie hat its unique character and look. Hired by the leading citizens of a county to eradicate rustling, Horn, goes about his business too efficiently, making his employers nervous for their own safety.

Cowboys and Aliens Jake Lonergan Hat This is a modified crown treatment of a cavalry style, with the edges exaggerated. This movie is based on eyewitness accounts of cowboys taking pot shots at massive birds in 1890s Arizona. When the cowboys' shot at them, they apparently heard the bullets bounce off, the "leather like skin". The action starts right away in Cowboys and Aliens, when we see how Jake gets his hat. This is our version of the movie hat.

Wyatt Handmade Hat - This is the hat style worn by Kevin Costner in 1994s, Wyatt Earp. This style has the same basic shape and design as a traditional 19th century Cavalry Hat. Col Yorke Cavalry Hat - Our version of this classic hat from the horse westerns of the 40s and 50s. The Cavalry trooper was immortalized in the John Ford Cavalry Trilogy - and this is the same hat that you can see in almost every scene from those three great movies: She Wore a Yellow Ribbon; Fort Apache, and Rio Grande.

Hondo Custom Cowboy Hat - Here's another great western made from a popular Louis L'Amour story. The movie, Hondo, was released in 1953, and was based on a short story by L'Amour, called, The Gift of Cochise. Our take on the Hondo Custom Cowboy Hat has that classic diamond shaped crown, with a 4 inch brim for great sun and all weather protection.

One of our customers bought an original series-worn Robert Conrad hat at auction, from the iconic 1960sTV series The Wild Wild West. Our version of the Vin Tanner Movie Hat This is the hat style worn by Steve McQueen as the gunfighter Vin Tanner in the 1960s Magnificent Seven. The hat style is similar to the Texican, but the Vin hat has a shorter brim. To make the Vin movie grade add heavy trail dust during the checkout process.

Our version of the Dylan Custom Town Hat - A 21st century updated version of his classic Rolling Thunder hat from the 1960s. This hat has a classic telescope crown, with a pencil roll, creating a dynamic and distinctive hat. A couple of musicians from Bavaria in Germany liked the hat that they had seen Bob Dylan wearing in a 2010 concert. So we made them two.
