    Coogan Cowboy Hat style is the COOGAN, worn by Clint Eastwood in 1968s, Coogan's Bluff With the world being scared into sheltering in place over the month of April 2020 we thought we would give our clients and friends a distraction to help the time go by. A contest to engage the imagination and powers of deduction, along with our love of movies.
    WE HAVE A WINNER! Well, we have been suitably humbled...this contest was posted at 1:42 April 4 2020 and in just 17 minutes(!) Ben Ellis posted the winning answer. Our mystery hat was the hat style worn by Clint Eastwood as Walt Coogan, in 1968s Coogan's Bluff. Thanks to everyone that played along and stay healthy!

    We have what we think is a dynamic cowboy hat design for the 21st century. Great for sun protection, with a 4 3/4 inch crown and a 4 inch brim the hat is tall enough and wide enough to give good all weather protection. We started with the classic Canadian (rectangular top dent) crown and deepened the front and side dents. The brim has a front drover style roll and we have a slight pencil roll at the back and through the sides.

    Our take on the Jess Harper Cowboy hat from the classic TV series, Laramie.

    Robert Fuller was one of Hollywood's most handsome leading men in the 1950s and 60s, and he had a fine career playing cowboy heroes, including Jess Harper from Laramie. Our first hat was given to Mr. Fuller in 2017, as a gift from his fan club. More below

    Rocky Mountain Ranger Cowboy Hat handmade by the last best west Our Rocky Mountain Ranger Cowboy Hat is a custom, handmade cowboy hat.  With this design we attempted to fashion a crown shape reminiscent of a ridge in the Alberta Rocky Mountains. We feel this back crease beautifully compliments the 3 pinch creasing we have worked into the front of the crown.

    Our version of the Quirt Western Movie Hat has a classic telescope crown, with a kettle curled and hand rolled and bound edge brim. For our money, 1947s Angel and the Badman, is one of the top 20 western movies ever made. And this classic western film has one of the great western character names in the history of western film, Quirt Evans. The Quirt Movie Hat style is also a similar version to the one worn by Will Smith as James West in the wacky 1999 western, the Wild Wild West - the brim is just rolled a little differently. We'll fashion it either way for you, just request the James West version in the production notes section of the order.

    Our version of the Vin Tanner Movie Hat  This is the hat style worn by Steve McQueen as the gunfighter Vin Tanner in the 1960s Magnificent Seven.     Our take on the Woodrow Dolarhyde Movie Hat - the Harrison Ford cowboy hat from Cowboys and Aliens hand made by the last best west For most of Cowboy and Aliens, Woodrow Dolarhyde wears a Pecan colored hat, but at the end of the film, he can be seen wearing a gray (our granite color) one. This modified 3 pinch cavalry crown is a cousin of our traditional 1890s cavalry hat and has a bound edge with a gentle hand roll. It is also similar to our Top Hand hat.

    Cowboys and Aliens Jake Lonergan Hat

    Cowboys and Aliens Jake Lonergan Hat This is a modified crown treatment of a cavalry style, with the edges exaggerated. This movie is based on eyewitness accounts of cowboys taking pot shots at massive birds in 1890s Arizona. When the cowboys' shot at them, they apparently heard the bullets bounce off, the "leather like skin". The action starts right away in Cowboys and Aliens, when we see how Jake gets his hat.  This is our version of the movie hat.

     1890s Cavalry Hat, an authentic old west cavalry hat custom made by the last best west This 1890s cavalry hat is the classic look sported by the US Cavalry in the later quarter of the 19th Century.     Bullock Western Hat

    Bullock western hat - The Timothy Olyphant hat from HBOs Deadwood Our take on the Bullock hat is a millenary design known as the Dakota in the late 1800’s and was popular with the more affluent in the Old West. Made famous again in HBO’S raw western, Deadwood, it was the hat worn by Sheriff Bullock, portrayed by Timothy Olyphant. The Dakota was one of the six hat styles we started our old west hat catalog with back in 2003.     Our take on the Indiana Jones adventure hat (fedora) from the Indiana Jones movie.

    A classic fedora crown with a rakish curve to the brim brought this old hat back into public favor with the enormously popular Indiana Jones movies. Harrison Ford established himself as one of the top leading men in Hollywood with his portrayal of Archaeologist turned Treasure Hunter, Indiana Jones in 1981. We have modified the look of our Indiana Jones Adventure Hat by doing a 3 1/2" inch brim for better weather protection. If you wish the 2 3/4" inch brim (like the movie hat) just request it in the production notes as you put your hat order together below.
