OLD WEST COWBOY HATS
The Cowboy Hat defines the wearer
A traditional cowboy prized his hat above all things – with good reason. It was often worth a month or two’s wages – and that made it very expensive. The cowboy likely spent hours personalizing the hat with creases to the crown and molding the brim – that made it his.
A 19th century cowboy would go to hell and back to retrieve a misplaced old west hat and it was seldom further than an arm’s length away.
Old Fashion Quality
You won’t find these western hats at your nearest mall. Many of the brim shapes or crowns may look familiar, may even be the same, but they are poor imitations, cookie-cutter designs; mass produced and available virtually anywhere. Don’t follow the herd – strike out on your own with a classic custom western hat from The Last Best West.
The Last Best Cowboy Hat
We start with the best fur-felt hat body available – made in the USA – and fashion as fine a hand-made western hat as you can find anywhere, for any price.
Made to order. Made to last. Made in America by the Cowboys at The Last Best West.

an authentic old west hat with over sized brim Yellowstone Kelly Custom Hat - We introduced this hat design in 2008 based on what we think Yellowstone Kelly is wearing in the historical photo from the 1890s. The brim we have pretty dang close and we have used a crown treatment that would have been in keeping with the style exhibited by this cultured warrior.

The hat style worn by Henry Fonda as Wyatt Earp in My Darling Clementine. This distinctive looking hat is a cousin of the Open Range and a relation of the Wasey, and the Conagher. Smaller brimmed then the Open Range, our version is also similar to the hat seen in The Man who shot Liberty Valance.

Our take on the Will Munny Hat From Unforgiven (1992) This powerful western drama from 1992 is Clint Eastwoods' Cowboy Masterpiece. Eastwood plays the reformed pistol fighter, Will Munny, who comes out of retirement to go hunting bounty on a couple of buckeroos who cut up a dance hall girl. Will Munny Cowboy Hat

Westerner Movie Hat - Our take on Gary Cooper's, Cole Hardin hat from The Westerner (1940) This classic old west hat has a soft telescope crown, with a big 4 inch brim, and a gentle dip to the front and back. Shown with our optional medium trail dust our Westerner Movie Hat could easily be mistaken for the hat worn by Denzel Washington as Chisholm in the new western remake of the 1960s iconic film The Magnificent Seven. All it needs is a narrow cord hatband. If you want the Chisolm version, just ask for it in the PRODUCTION NOTES section of your order.

Our take on the Virgil Cole Movie Hat - from Appaloosa {2008} Our Virgil Cole Hat is the cowboy hat worn by Ed Harris in 2008s excellent Western Film, Appaloosa. This is also the hat with only minor changes (a front pinch to the crown and a bit more roll to the brim) that Mr. Harris wears as The Man in Black, in HBOs new western hit, Westworld. It's almost like the character is patterned after a mean and vicious Virgil Cole. If you would like The Man in Black version, add the request to the PRODUCTION NOTES. The style is a an adjusted version of a basic Boss of the Plains style cowboy hat. Add a homburg dent to the crown and give a nice dip to the front of the brim and there she be. Pretty close to a Fort Bragg version of the US Cavalry Hat from the 1870s.

Tom Horn Cowboy Hat - Our reproduction of the Steve McQueen cowboy hat from the movie, Tom Horn - {1980} The crown creasing of this hat is close to the Augustus, but it's the hand shaped brim that gives this movie hat its unique character and look.
