  • Texas Rangers Company D Badge - Frontier Battalion Few will argue that the most violent Texan from the Old West was John Wesley Hardin. After killing Sheriff Charley Webb in 1874 Wes Hardin was on the run, until on August 23, 1877, Frontier Battalion Lieutenant, John Armstrong, caught up with him in Pensacola, Florida.   • Colorado Rangers Badge - In 1861, the Jefferson Rangers, originally founded in 1859 to keep peace in Colorado, were reorganized as the Colorado Rangers. On January 29th, 1923 Governor William Sweet gave an executive order to disband the Rangers, leaving Colorado without statewide police protection until 1935.   • Arizona Rangers Badge - The Rangers were a special police force created to assist jurisdictional lawmen at a time when outlaws outnumbered lawmen in the Arizona Territory.   • Texas Rangers Company B Badge - The Texas Rangers were first formed in 1823 to keep law and order throughout Texas and the Southwest. In the 1870s the Rangers were combating rampant lawlessness, fighting the raiding Comanche's, struggling against Mexican border disputes and battling the feuding cattlemen and desperados that were terrorizing the State of Texas.   • California Ranger Badge - On May 11, 1853, California Governor John Bigler signed a legislative act authorizing the organization of a band of California Rangers under the command of Captain Harry Love. Their purpose? To capture or kill the infamous bandito Joaquin Murieta, ringleader of a gang of men believed to be responsible for much of the cattle rustling, robberies, and murders taking place in the Mother Lode region.   • U.S. Marshal - Round Badge - A badge of this type was worn by Deputy U.S. Marshal Wiley Green Haines in the Oklahoma Territory at the turn of the century.   • Territorial Rangers Badge - The Arizona Territorial Rangers were first formed in April 1860 by then Provisional Governor Dr. Lewis S. Owings - with James Henry Tevis as their first Captain. The first Headquarters was in Pinos Altos. When Arizona joined the Confederacy, the men that formed the Arizona Rangers joined the Confederate Army, disbanding the Rangers.   • Alaska Territory U.S. Marshal Badge - In 1884, law in the rugged Alaska Territory was upheld by Federal Marshals under a U.S. District Judge. At the start of the Nome gold rush there was only one Marshal and ten Deputies. In 1897, Deputy Marshals William C. Watt and James Mark Rowan were the first to be killed in the line of duty.   • U.S. Marshal Durango - William ( Big Bill) Thompson stood 6'4"tall, but that didn't help him when he got into a gunfight with Jesse Stensel, the Town Marshal of Durango. Thompson was closing down gambling halls under the Governor's orders. Marshal Stensel objected, and the two emptied their guns at each other. Sheriff Thompson died from four bullet wounds. After it was discovered that one of Thompson's wounds was to his back, the Marshal was arrested for murder. Before the trial could take place, Sheriff Thompson's clothing, which was the vital evidence to prove the murder charge, was burned by the undertaker.   • U.S. Marshal - Star Badge - Virgil Earp wore such a badge as this during his time in Tombstone. Virgil was commissioned by Crawley P. Dake, U.S. Marshal for Arizona. After Virgil was ambushed and crippled in 1882, it was Dake who appointed Wyatt as a (temporary) Deputy U.S. Marshal to pursue his brother Morgan's killer.   • Captain Arizona Rangers Badge - Only three men ever wore this badge. Burton C. Mossman 1901-1902, ended large scale cattle rustling in North America. Thomas H. Running 1902-1907, made more arrests and convictions than any man in Arizona. Harry Wheeler 1907-1909, "the shootinest ranger of 'em all.   • Deputy Sheriff Badge - This type of badge was worn by two Deputies, Bob Olinger and J.W.   • Western Atlantic RR Agent Badge - This southern railroad became a major transport for the Confederate states during the war between the North and South.   • Union Pacific Special Agent Badge - By 1860 there were 30,626 miles of railroad in the United States -- more than three times the mileage than existed just 10 years before. Theft was rampant and the losses in dollars of freight, parcels and luggage were overwhelming to the railroad companies. Railway companies, left to protect themselves, contracted railroad policemen.   • Yuma Territorial Prison Badge - The cells of Arizona’s Yuma Prison were dug out below ground level, and had no roofs to shelter prisoners from the sweltering sun of the Arizona Desert. Not only were these jailbirds exposed to extreme heat up to 115 degrees, they also had to face dangerous venemous enemies such as Black Widows, Rattlesnakes, Scorpions, Centipedes and even Gila Monsters!   • Pinkerton Detective Agency Badge - Alan Pinkerton established his private detective agency in 1850. The company logo was an open eye and the motto. "We Never Sleep".   • San Juan Colorado Rangers Badge - The San Juan Rangers were another little known part of the legend of the old western frontier. Rangers were brave men who stood out from the crowd. Some were appointed to office, others volunteered or were deputized. Their role as lawmen was to corral cattle rustlers, unruly gamblers and drunk cowboys and keep the peace in the towns.   • Special Ranger Badge - Texas and Southwest Cattle Raisers Association On February 15, 1877, in Graham, Texas, the Texas and Southwest Cattle Raisers Association was formed. The original name was the Stock-Raisers' Association of North-West Texas, and Cattlemen in Oklahoma, New Mexico, and the Indian Territory were invited to join. This badge came about when the Association decided to take matters into their own hands and track down outlaws and protect themselves and their herds from the rampant rustling of the day.   • Marshal Territory of New Mexico Badge - During the late 1880s cattlemen wars were common in the southwest, making a Marshal a very good man to have in the Territory of New Mexico. With bandits and gunfighters like Billy the Kid causing trouble, the citizens were grateful to have Marshals like Richard Dallam, Pat Garrett, and Sheriff Elfego Baca to keep the peace in the cowboy capital of the Old West.
